Piper Cherokee G-AVYN crashed at Ashfold Gill Head near Pateley Bridge on the 23rd September 1969.

Today most of the aircraft remains at the site, with the exception of the instrument panel, undercarriage and the engine. 

The latter was recovered by local air cadets a number of years after the crash.

 

Above is the aircraft's complete (though rather crumpled) port wing showing the registration G-AVYN.

 

A short time gathering items up at the site allowed partial reconstruction of the fuselage with the engine fire wall both doors and some of the other panels.

 

this photo shows the more complete of the two doors, the bars the rudder pedals attached to and the post the two control yokes were attached to can bee seen still fastened in position.

 

Also at the site is the complete elevator unit from the aircraft.
