The crew were on a navigation exercise from Dumfries when they flew into the southern side of Sca Fell above Cam Spout killing all on board.

Most of the remaining wreckage is scattered in the rocks, though there is this small collection of parts, mainly from one of the aircraft's engines.

The item in the photo above is the largest item still at the crash site high on Sca Fell.

Flight Lieutenant Kowalczyk was buried at Dumfries (St Andrew's) Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Sergeants Chadwick and Pickering were buried at Chester (Blacon) Cemetery, below are photographs of their graves.
