For sometime there has been a report of a late 1st World War biplane crash near Torside Reservoir, this it would now seem possibly did not happen, though an aircraft was reported as being wrecked here.  National Aircraft Factory No.2 at Heaton Chapel produced large numbers of DH-4s and DH-9s, some were flown out of the small airfield adjacent to the factory but others were transported by rail to Sheffield where they were then flown.  One of these aircraft (most likely a DH-9) has been reported as destroyed when it fell from a train near to Torside at some point late in the WW1.  It would seem as though this is the reported crash.
