The pilot had become disorientated in poor weather and had probably descended to determine his position when the aircraft crashed and was destroyed by fire.

Above is a photo looking towards where the aircraft crashed, when we visited the crash site we found some small fragments of the aircraft including one part with an Oxford part number and de Havilland inspectors stamp, this aircraft was one a large number built by de Havilland under contract. Interestingly the aircraft is also the only Oxford Mk.II in the Peak District and one of only a small number on high ground.
