Allan Masheder Chadwick Leading Aircraftman Wireless Operator Died

LAC Chadwick died of his injuries on the 24th August 1941.

 

The aircraft was on an anti-aircraft co-operation exercise from Ringway (Manchester) to Rhyl in North Wales, the aircraft's gyro-compass was not functioning correctly causing the pilot to fly at almost 180o to his intended route. On impact the aircraft turned over trapping both of the seriously injured crew, the aircraft was located on the 20th August and both crew rescued though L.A.C. Chadwick died of his injuries just three days later.

 

Not much remains at the crash site on Featherbed Moss today at the spot where the Lysander crashed.
