Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC PG472 of 11 (P)AFU crashed in the Smithills area near Bolton, on the 2nd February 1945.

Above is the crash site of PG472, the site was excavated by LAIT in September 2001 which accounts for the unusually large amount of wreckage for a hurricane crash site.
