The aircraft was being ferried to Prestwick in Ayrshire by an RAF pilot who was assigned to the ATA.

Small pieces of aluminium remain scattered on the moor where the aircraft crashed.
Some have been made more visible by moorland fires, evidence of which can be seen in this photo.
