The aircraft was one of a number being ferried across the Atlantic, one had been lost between Greenland and Iceland the previous day with the loss of the crew. After the aircraft crossed the Scottish coast it flew inland off course and struck high ground.

Not much remains of the aircraft today except a shattered piece of
wing and main spar and many burnt fragments.
2nd Lt Anderson and MSgt Cross are both buried at Cambridge American Cemetery.
