Republic P-47D-1-RE 42-7897 of the 6th Fighter Wing based at AAF Station 342, Atcham, flew into the top of Ffrith Dreborth close to Glyndyfrdwy, Llangollan on the 18th July 1943 whilst on a low level training flight.

The aircraft was the sister ship to one of the two that flew in Cats Tor some 74 days latter on the 30th September 1943. Both aircraft were based at Atcham but operated by different units, although these units merged at the end of 1943 to form the 495 Fighter Training Group and prior to that the aircraft were used by both units.

Very little remains at the site today, a few small fragments can be found if you really search around. This photo show roughly the same view as one of the photographs in the accident report. The aircraft crashed in the foreground and came to rest close to where the photo was taken.
