Douglas Boston Mk.III Z2186 of 418 Squadron RCAF, flew into Carnedd Dafydd in the Carneddau on Saturday 17th October 1942 whilst on a cross country navigation training flight from Bradwell Bay in Essex.

The interesting fact that I noticed with the crew was that two of them were navigators, since Air Observer was the term used used for navigators in the early war years.

Today only a single sheet of armour plating and a slate plaque remain at the crash site, until 1977 almost the entire aircraft was at the site but the remains were recovered for use in a restoration project by the Boston-Havoc Preservation Trust. In 1984 in the very much misguided clear up operation that the Snowdonia National Park Authority carried out the engines were removed.
