The aircraft was being used to carry out a patrol from Thornaby. Shortly after take off the aircraft's windscreen iced up blocking forward vision, shortly after this occurring the aircraft flew into the edge of Easby Moor near to the Captain Cook Monument.

Very little remains where the aircraft crashed, though during our 2003 visit we found a few small fragments of the aircraft.
Since our visit a memorial has been erected where the aircraft crashed.
