Supermarine Spitfire F. Mk.22 PK617 of No.608 Sqn, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, crashed on the 13th February 1949 near the village of Commondale in the North Yorkshire Moors.

Above is a Spitfire Mk.XVIII, outwardly similar to a Mk.22

The pilot was on a training flight from Thornaby when his aircraft dived into the ground while he was performing low level aerobatics.
