Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI SM278 of No.567 Squadron RAF crashed on the 16th
September 1945 on Arden Great Moor in the North Yorkshire Moors. The pilot was
returning the aircraft from Acklington to Manston following the celebration of
Battle of Britain day.

A small amount of wreckage can still be found at the site today.
There once was virtually the entire aircraft at the site but the bulk of the
wreckage was removed many years ago.
