Whitley Mk.V Z9221 of No.77 Squadron RAF crashed near Kirkby Malzeard to the west of Ripon of the 28th March 1942

The crew were returning to RAF Leeming near Northallerton from an unsuccessful sortie against the French port of St Nazaire when the aircraft crashed on Kirkby Malzeard Moor to the west of Ripon.

Flight Sergeant Fuller was killed a little over a year after this crash, while on operations againt Dusseldorf. He was a crew member onboard Halifax Mk.II W7825 of No.35 Sqn when it was shot down.

A small amount of wreckage remain at the crash site, including pieces of framework from the centre section and wings and a 24 volt battery.
