The aircraft's pilot ran a business transporting shellfish from Scotland to customers in the rest of Europe. It was during such a flight from Benbecula to Glasgow carrying a cargo of lobsters that the aircraft struck Beinn an Leathaid, a 1300ft hill above the village of Kilmory on the northern side of the Ardnamurchan peninsular, the aircraft was completely destroyed and Mr Petersen was killed.

Almost nothing remains at the crash site of the aircraft except this battery and a single fragment of aluminium. There are probably numerous none metallic items in the area as a large amount of fibre glass was used in the construction of the Skylane
.
Some distance from the crash site is this piece of aluminium structure which appears to be from one of the aircraft's wings.

Not far from the previous piece was this seat frame,
