The crew were on a low level reconnaissance training flight from RAF Marham in Norfolk, the aircraft was heading north along Glen Ogle above Lochernhead at close to 430kts (just under 500mph). Towards the top of the glen the pilot rolled the aircraft to the right through around 270o, shortly after the port wing tip struck the ground and the aircraft was completely destroyed by the subsequent impact and explosion.

After a thorough clean up only the crater where the aircraft exploded marks the crash site, this photograph is looking back along the line of flight.

In the years after the crash a memorial was placed close to the site.
This is the memorial as it appeared in 2000.

Above is Flight Lieutenant Harrison’s grave at Kilwinning Cemetery in Ayrshire. Flight Lieutenant Mosley was buried in Torquay, Devon.
