The crew were on a low level reconnaissance training flight from RAF Marham in Norfolk, the aircraft was heading north along Glen Ogle above Lochernhead at close to 430kts (just under 500mph). Towards the top of the glen the pilot rolled the aircraft to the right through around 270o, shortly after the port wing tip struck the ground and the aircraft was completely destroyed by the subsequent impact and explosion.
