Airspeed Oxford Mk.I PH242 of No.21 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit crashed on Hay Bluff near Hay-on-Wye on the 7th January 1946 while on a training flight from Wheaton Aston
Ernest George Stephen Monk | Warrant Officer | Pilot | Injured |
Arthur Hopewell | Flying Officer | Instructor | Injured |
Gordon Robinson | Flight Sergeant | Wireless Operator | Killed |

Very little is left where PH242 crashed now, only a few scraps of metal and wood. This was the only photo that came out of the trip to this site. It was visited the day after Vulcan XH536 and in very similar weather conditions.
It may be of interest that 4 days latter Oxford LX673 of No.21 (P)AFU was lost in a fatal accident in the Peak District.
